Wasn't overly impressed with the first book but I thought I'd persevere because I love the Cat and Bones books.
Still a bit meh ... have no idea what Leila sees in Vlad. For me Kresley Cole's Lothaire is far more convincing as the heartless/ruthless vampire turned around by the love of a human.
Also, a pet peeve of mine at the moment is books written in the first person where the narrator describes themselves as in "I brushed my ash blonde hair over my collar" type of thing. Honestly it just sounds awful - describe others like that not yourself!
Without spoilering after they ... and then ... happens the story actually picks up, which annoyingly makes me interested in reading the third book!
